Hard to believe we can jam this entire band on stage. Their music fills the hall and your souls with the standards spanning decades. Perennial favorites at Merryall.

That’s how people are describing the Merryall Center for the Arts, in its 62nd season.
Thanks to generous area residents and a state grant, the building has been completely renovated, while maintaining its historic character. The roof has been replaced, the foundation secured, the exterior repaired and repainted, and the deck repaired. Replacement windows and doors were selected for historical and architectural accuracy.
On the inside, the entire building has been repaired and repainted, the floors redone, a handicap-access bathroom installed, kitchen appliances replaced, professional sound and lighting added — and air conditioning installed. The results have largely been made possible by Charles Bogie, who volunteered to act as general contractor for the two-year-long project.
A sponsorship program is new this year. Proposed by new board member Joseph Mahoney of Bridgewater, local businesses have provided a much-needed boost in revenue at levels ranging from Conductor to Concert Master, Performer and Accompanist. Sponsors are identified in the program for each performance and major sponsors acknowledged for specific performances.
Likewise, Paul Whitty, a board member from New Milford, has secured funding from the state Department of Economic and Community Development, Connecticut Community Foundation and New Milford Commission on the Arts.
In addition to its regular performances, Merryall this year will host a New Milford Garden Club event featuring internationally known designer and Washington resident Loretta Stagen, will again offer its version of the popular “Antiques Road Show” and will be the site of the 2013 Cocktails and Cabaret, sponsored by Ted Hine. This year’s lecture series, focusing on the media, will include a presentation by Marlene Sanders, former ABC News vice president.
The entertainment schedule organized by board member Albert Bayers Jr., offers the wide range that Merryall is noted for providing.
Check out the performances and decide whether to be a member or a subscriber. The choice is yours but — either way — be prepared to be rejuvenated in this remarkable venue.
