The Sherman Chamber Ensemble presents “Classical Classics” with music for flute, and strings. In a tribute to America 250, the program features String Trio No. 1 by Joseph Antes (1740-1822), one of the earliest American-born chamber music composers and a contemporary of Franz Josef Haydn. He is also the maker of perhaps the earliest surviving bowed string instrument made in America, a violin from 1759 – now housed in the Moravian Historical Society in Nazareth, PA.
The program includes string and flute quartets by Hayden, Mozart, and Beethoven performed by violinists Jane Chung and Doori Na, Susan Rotholz (flute), David Creswell (viola) and Eliot Bailen (cello).
